Google’s newest launch is aimed at making the search process easier for job seekers using machine learning. The move makes a lot of sense for the search giant and could be an indicator of other niche search efforts they plan to launch.

Google is very clear about the fact that it doesn’t want to directly compete with Monster, CareerBuilder and similar sites. It currently has no plans to let employers posts jobs directly to its jobs search engine for example (though that would surely be lucrative). “We want to do what we do best: search,” Zakrasek said. “We want the players in the ecosystem to be more successful.” Anything beyond that is not in Google’s wheelhouse, he added.

Many other industries can potentially benefit from enhanced search capabilities through Google. Although they have a commerce application in ‘Google Shopping’ the product could do a lot more towards helping consumers find the perfect item. People looking for service recommendations could one day turn to Google instead of Yelp if the search capabilities are enhanced. Similar to its ad business however, it will be important for Google to maintain transparency on the criteria for their rankings or they could risk being accused of creating an unfair advantage for their own businesses.
